Golfers and sponsors raised over $20,000 at the 25th Annual Siouxland Senior Open to benefit Sunrise Alzheimer’s care.

The event, held May 24 at Two River’s Golf Course, established Jeff Donaldson as Siouxland’s senior men’s golf champion. For the first time this year a women’s champion was crowned, and Betty Rettenmaier made history by becoming the inaugural winner.  Both Donaldson and Rettenmaier received the Gunderson’s Cup and had their names inscribed on the Dale Mogren Memorial Plaque.

The event named Rudy Salem, colorful sports commentator as honorary chair.

Proceeds will help fund important renovations for Bernstein and Sunlight memory care centers. “We are thrilled to receive the funds from the Senior Open this year,” says Lorrie Stedman, Sunrise director of fund development. “Senior golfers and our sponsors understand the value of our Alzheimer’s care and that Sunrise was the leader in Iowa when we opened our first memory care center in 1992, and our second center in 1996”.  Hallie Salmen, executive director says “Today the residents we serve in our memory care neighborhoods are much further along in the disease process.  These funds will be used to make important renovations so that we can continue to meet the needs and provide the very best care for our residents”.
