Partnership Enhances Resident Care

February 7, 2017

Leading boldly is a key part of our mission at Sunrise, as we strive to lead the way in providing care to those we serve. This past fall of 2016, we were excited to partner with Avera eCare, the country’s leading provider of telehealth services, to bring eLong Term Care (eLTC) to Sunrise residents!

With support from grant funding through the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Sunrise is the first long term care provider in the Sioux City area to introduce this technology to our residents. Through the award, Sunrise has received a specialized computer cart complete with a stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, and handheld camera for close-up diagnostic evaluation. Along with these tools, the cart features a direct video connection to Avera eCare staff!

With eLong Term Care, the Sunrise team has immediate support from a board-certified geriatrician and geriatric nurses. Working together, they can reduce unnecessary hospital transfers for our residents and improve their experience and health care outcomes at Sunrise.

Available 24 hours a day, this service will be especially beneficial to our overnight team members, as it immediately offers a second opinion whenever needed. It should also be helpful for residents to connect with specialist physicians through online connections, rather than requiring an exhausting trip to Sioux Falls or Omaha.

eLong Term Care services will only be available to residents in the Sunrise Health Center for now, but we hope to serve the entire Sunrise campus with this technology as we look to the future.
