Many people think being sad is depression, but it is much more complex than that. Everyone is different and may experience different symptoms. Some depression symptoms may be as follows:

  1. Little interest or pleasure in doing things.
  2. Feeling down, depressed or hopeless.
  3. Trouble falling or staying asleep or sleeping too much.
  4. Feeling tired or having little energy.
  5. Poor appetite, overeating or considerable weight changes.
  6. Feeling bad about themselves or feeling they are a failure.
  7. Difficulty concentrating or making decisions.
  8. Moving or speaking slowly, restlessness.
  9. Thoughts that you would be better off dead.

Depression Tips:

  1. Learn about your depression there could be underlying medical conditions causing it.
  2. Take time to find the right treatment. Trial & error.
  3. Don’t rely on medications alone. Seek therapy either in groups or one on one.
  4. Social support.

Treatment takes time and commitment. It may not happen overnight. Always involve your doctor and family for support & treatment options. Depression can be seasonal especially over the winter and holiday months.
