What is influenza?

It is a contagious respiratory illness that infects the nose, throat and sometimes the lungs. It can lead to pneumonia, ear infections, sinus infections and worsens other chronic medical conditions. You are most contagious in the first 3-4 days.

What are some of the symptoms?

  • Fever–not everyone will have a fever
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Body aches
  • Headaches
  • Chills
  • Fatigue
  • Sometimes diarrhea and vomiting

 

What is the best way to prevent getting the flu?

Everyone should get a flu shot and always use good hand-washing. Do not go around others, if you are experiencing any symptoms. Get to the doctor as soon as possible for medication that may shorten the cycle.
